What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

It’s turkey time! My favorite day of the year is Thanksgiving. I love the food, the holiday spirit, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the football, making calls to friends, and all the anticipation of the holidays to come. Central to our celebration is a good meal, served with gratitude for all we have. Setting a beautiful festive table is part of the fun. This year, my Turkey Time Tablescape has 24 turkeys!

I've been a lot less active in the quilting community over the last few years, choosing to let quilting become just a hobby for myself, and instead focusing most of my attention and efforts on other endeavors. If you've followed, or even just checked in occasionally with my blog over the years, there is a good chance you've seen one of Cheryl Brickey's (Meadow Mist Designs) mystery quilt along projects in progress. June temperatures have been warm but not hot, and a perfect time to enjoy a meal on the veranda. When Rita at Panoply asked me to be a part of her Summer Tablescapes blog hop, I thought it was a good time to pull out a few things I still have and put together a table for six outside. Avid, committed quiltmakers bestow quilts on their immediate and extended families. They happily make quilts for baby and wedding gifts, graduations and retirements and anniversaries.  They have wall hangings and placemats for every season. They may even sell a few pieces. But the inspiration keeps coming -- online, in print, at shops and shows, from fellow quilters.  What does a quiltmaker do?  Make quilts for strangers, of course.

Welcome to Dust Off A Quilt Book blog hop. For this blog hop, I dusted off a book I kept renewing at the library. It is called Use Scraps, Sew Blocks, Make 100 Quilts by Stuart Hillard.

The library wanted it back, and I wasn't done with it, so I tried to buy a used copy, and they were out of stock so I tried and succeeded in buying yet another used copy. It's from a different library. Normally, I don't work that hard to buy something.

I firmly believe that anyone who has a voice can sing. Whether their singing is pleasant to hear or not is another story altogether.  Similarly, I can make a quilt with any group of colors. Will that grouping be aesthetically appealing? That depends on the design.

December Challenge!

Christmas is a wonderful time to set a pretty table, celebrating the season all month long. For several years, I have been slowly adding to this collection of Christmas stoneware. It is a Certified International set designed by Susan Winget (just love her stuff!) called Vintage Christmas.
